Blogging is coming to Trinity

Blogging is coming to Trinity

We are looking forward to integrating blogging into our Trinity learning community.

What is a Blog?

Blog = A Web Log

If you are unfamiliar with blogs, they are like online journals.  Blogs are a website on which an individual or group of users can add posts (record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis.) These posts are displayed in reverse chronological order.  There are panels on the side (called widgets) where you can find past posts, recent comments, subscribe via email and more.

Why Blog?

Blogs are a great way for classrooms to share things with a wide and authentic audience, instead of just the teaching seeing the students’ learning experiences. All parents, grandparents, family, friends and others, can view the posts and leave comments.  Having a blog helps strengthen home-school partnerships and build a sense of classroom community.   Using blogs is also a great way for students to improve their ICT skills and get experience using emerging technologies.  Students improve their Literacy skills while blogging and it is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about appropriate online behaviours.

Safety, Safety, Safety

One of the main goals for our blogs is to take our learning beyond our classroom walls.  It is very important that we use the Internet appropriately and safely.  Only teachers will be able to add to the blog, all comments must first be approved by the blog administrator (teacher) before appearing on the site.  To ensure a safe learning environment we have Blogging Guidelines which will be posted as a page on each blog. Shortly you will receive the Blogging Guidelines and permission form to complete so your child is ready to begin their blogging journey.

Grade Level Blogs will be officially launched during Term 3, 2013.  Please keep an eye out to see when your child/children’s Grade Level Blog goes live!

We will be sending home more information about Grade Blogs soon!
