From the Principal - Term 4, Week 8

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week I have had the privilege of spending the last three days with our wonderful Year 6 students on their final primary school camp in Melbourne. We have had a wonderful time together and the students have represented the school with pride. Not only have they displayed our School Wide Expectations of being resilient, responsible, respectful and safe, they have demonstrated just how mature they can be and how ready they are for the next exciting chapter in their lives when they head off to secondary school. Lots of fun was had exploring the MCG, The Old Melbourne Goal, Parliament, ACMI and the Eureka Tower at night. Thank you to all the staff that gave up their time to attend camp. Next week our Year 6s will head off to Urban Surf for the day and then will look forward to their graduation on Thursday 14December.

Grandparent’s Day

On Friday 10November we celebrated Grandparents / Special Friends Day at Trinty. This was a wonderful celebration acknowledging the special people in the lives of our students that love, nurture and support them. Over 380 guests spent the morning with us and the smile on the students faces said it all. We look forward to celebrating this special day again next year.

Parish Sports

Last Friday the first Parish Sports was held at Mary Mackillop Primary School. It was a great day with all the Year 5 and 6 students from the three-parish school participating in a round robin competition in various sports – tennis, t-ball, volleyball, soccer and basketball. The students had a wonderful time and the sportsmanship displayed was commendable. Congratulations to all the students for their participation and to Joel F in 6B for receiving the sportsmanship award for Trinity for his positive attitude and resilience. Thank you to Mrs Cahill and Mrs Woolf for their organisation of the day and to all the staff that supported them in the process. Thank you to all the Mary MacKillop staff for hosting the wonderful day. We look forward to next year’s event!

 2025 Foundation (Prep) Enrolments

We have now begun the process of enrolling 2025 Foundation students.  If you have a child coming in 2025, or know of someone else who does, please contact the Office for an application form or you can download one from the school website.

 St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal

This year we will once again partner up with St Vincent de Paul to create Christmas hampers for those in our community experiencing financial and emotional hardship. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and to reflect on just how lucky many of us are. The Social Justice Leaders have placed a tree in the atrium where non-perishable Christmas food items can be placed for the hamper, as well as small toys (new) that can be given as gifts. If you are able to donate to this worthy cause, your support would be greatly appreciated.

2024 Year 1-6 Orientation

Students in Years 1-6 in 2024 will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher/s and peers on Tuesday 12 December from 11.30- 1pm. Over the coming weeks the teachers will begin to transition the students to their new levels by using the 2024 classrooms to work from and eating morning tea or lunch in their new buildings. Classes have now been finalised, but teachers have not been allocated. This will be done in the in coming weeks. A lot of time, effort and thought goes into creating the classes each year. I ask that you start to discuss with your child how their new class will be a great opportunity to make new friends and meet a new teacher. Our children are very perceptive and pick up on how we behave and respond to situations. You can make a difference in how your child reacts to the news on the day by speaking positively about the change beforehand and by being excited for them when they come home with the news. Once the grades are finalised and announced on orientation day they can not be changed simply because your child wanted a particular student or teacher. I ask for your support in this matter and trust that your child’s 2023 teacher has made the best decision for your child going forward.

Child Safety- SchoolTV Week 8

Children are frequently exposed to distressing news through the 24-hour news cycle and social media. These experiences can provoke anxiety, especially in young minds still forming their worldviews. Parents and caregivers should be mindful of overexposure to such content as it can lead to symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress disorder. Children’s responses to trauma can vary, from being strong emotional reactions to being indifferent. It can leave an emotional imprint that can affect a child's behaviour and perception of danger.

Children need reassurance about their safety as they navigate uncertain times. Tailor conversations to your child's age and emotional maturity. Younger children benefit from simplified explanations focusing on peace, empathy, and cooperation, while older children can delve into historical events, root causes of conflict, and the complexities of international relations.

Before discussing these topics with your child, it is also important to assess your own emotions and comfort level. By staying calm and providing physical comfort will help your child regulate their own emotions. In challenging times, compassionate adults play a crucial role in helping children cope with anxiety and providing hope and understanding in our complex world.

Please take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. Religious Education - Term 4, Week 8

Reconciliation Services
This term the grade three students are participating in Reconciliation in our Trinity Chapel. 3A and 3B have had their opportunity to celebrate with Fr Brendan so far. All the students participated in the service in which they reflected on the parable of the lost sheep, knowing that Our God of love is always ready to forgive us and to help us in our need. Then the students who have completed the sacrament of Reconciliation were invited to engage in Reconciliation. It was wonderful to see the students reflecting on their choices and remembering to treat others as we would like them to treat us.

Fr Brendan's Farewell Mass
OLHC Parish is having a farewell mass for Fr Brendan on the 17th of December, 2023 at 11am. The mass will be held at OLHC Parish Church, followed by fellowship in the Parish Centre. We warmly invite Trinity families to attend to thank Fr Brendan for his 13 years of service in our school community.

The last  bookclub of the year is here, it is due back at school on the 28^th of November. All orders are now to be processed online; no cash orders will be accepted by the school.

Sport - Term 4, Week 8

                                                        PARISH SCHOOLS CUP

On Friday 17th November, Mary MacKillop Primary School hosted the very first annual Parish Schools Cup. All Year 5 and 6 students from Trinity, Don Bosco and Mary MacKillop Primary Schools competed in a round robin competition in either 5 a-side soccer, teeball, volleystars, basketball and hot shots tennis. The day commenced with a warm welcome from Mary MacKillop Primary School and a beautiful prayer service. Throughout the day, the students displayed great sportsmanship, represented Trinity with pride and upheld our four whole school expectations, resilience, respect, responsible and safe. There was a real sense of camaraderie between the students from all three schools, where they supported and encouraged each other, forming new friendships. We congratulate all the students for their positive participation. Congratulations to Joel F (6B) for receiving the Trinity Champion award for his positive attitude, resilience and sportsmanship. Thank you to all the staff that were involved with the preparation, organising teams and assisting on the day: Mr Watty, Mrs Matthews, Mrs Darwish, Mrs Schinck, Miss Marsden, Mrs Parker, Mrs Albert, Mrs Burke, Mrs Vellin, Miss Scarton, Mr Dannaoui, Mrs Kays, Mrs Fernandez and Mrs Quick. A special thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who assisted with coaching and refereeing: Tom, Shane, Gerard, Angie, Rachelle, Jessica, Kate, Donato, Brent, Quoc, Melissa, Ryan, Lucas and Cristian. Thank you also to the parents and family members for cheering on the students.

Thank you to Our Lady Help of Christians Parish for providing the students with this fantastic sporting opportunity, to the staff from Mary MacKillop and Don Bosco Primary Schools for helping to organise the day and for Mary MacKillop Primary School for being a wonderful host.

CHILD SAFE STANDARDS WORKING WITH CHILDREN

Trinity has zero tolerance towards child abuse and is therefore committed to complying with the Ministerial Order No. 1359 – Implementing the Child Safe Standards – Managing the Risk of Child Abuse in Schools and School Boarding Premises. All parents/guardians wishing to help in the classroom, canteen or attend excursions MUST have completed the PARENT HELPER WORKSHOP and hold a current WORKING WITH CHILDREN CARD.

Further details are available from the school office or the Justice Department website.  All parent/guardian helpers must sign in at the office before proceeding to the classrooms.  Your current Working with Children card must be displayed at all times when working in the classrooms and attending excursions.

A reminder to all Parents/Carers, supervision by School Staff begins at 8.30am before school and after school only at the drop off area until 3.30pm.

Trinity Car Park Etiquette

• For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
• Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area.  You are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices.  Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly.  The car park is NOT a meeting area.
• The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up Zone ONLY.
• The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-UP ZONES.  These are NO STANDING zones.  If your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of the pick-up queue.
• There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park.  All vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.
• THE GATES CLOSE AT 8.50am. They will RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm. The gates close for the day at 3:30pm. Occasionally they might reopen slightly later due to school activities.
• The Staff Car Park is for STAFF PARKING ONLY.  Please do not use it as a drop off/pick up for students.
