From the Principal - Term 1, Week 6
Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Tuesday we held our Colour Run event. Not only was this an amazing event full of colour, water, slime and sunshine, it was an extremely successful fundraiser with our very generous families and friends at Trinity helping the school to raise an incredible $12,148.64. Because of your generosity we are now in a position to look at different playgrounds and hopefully order something! This playground will be designed for all ages. We are also exploring options for our sensory garden. A huge shout out to everyone who was able to fundraise and to all the families who came to support the students on the day. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who assisted with throwing the coloured powder and squirting the water, without your support this event would not have been possible. Thank you also to the Narre Warren CFA who made a special visit to spray the children. This was the highlight of the day!!

Family Learning Conversations
Last week we held out Family Learning Conversations. The meetings were well attended and were a valuable opportunity for families to meet their child’s teacher and to share important information about how their child learns. Thank you to the staff for their preparation for the nights and to all the families for making the time to come along. Please feel free to make any future meetings with your child’s teacher should you have any questions or concerns.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate every student that stepped out of their comfort zone and applied for a leader role. We were blessed with so many desirable candidates and the school would have been fortunate to have had any one of the students in the roles. You are all leaders in our eyes. We look forward to a wonderful year.
School Carnival – Sunday 17th March
Only 11 more sleeps to go until our SCHOOL CARNIVAL!! We are all super excited and are looking forward to another fantastic community event. Please make sure you save the date and invite your friends and families to come along.
Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers that have offered to assist on the day with the activities. The day can not run without your help. We still have a few spots to fill so if you can spare an hour or two, please contact the office ASAP.
Thank you also to all families for your donations for our carnival mystery prizes! We were blown away by your generosity. The ladies were kept busy sorting them all last Friday.
Thank you also to the extremely hard-working carnival committee – Luisa, Sam, Kerryn, Jess, Jacinta, Sophie and Michael for your tireless efforts with organising the event. Thank you also to Bruce and Mayrena who have supported the committee at different stages. I truly hope the school community appreciate the amount of work that goes into organising such an event.

Official Opening of our Library and Artroom (Faith, Hope and Love Building)
All families received an invitation to our official Opening and Blessing of our latest building that was completed at the end of 2022. On Wednesday March 20th at 1.30pm, Fr Michael Willemsen will celebrate a special liturgy with the school community, blessing our new buildings. He will be joined on the day by Mr Paul Velten, Director of Catholic Education Sale and other special guests who played a part in the development and construction of the building. All families are warmly invited to attend. Please RSVP through the School Office for catering purposes.
NAPLAN Assessments
All Year 3 and 5 students will complete NAPLAN between the 13th of March and the 22nd of March.
If any families in Year 3 or Year 5 have holidays booked during this time, please email Mrs Shelton (ged.shelton@trinitynarre.catholic.edu.au), so we can factor this into our planning. We use NAPLAN to provide us with feedback about how we can improve our teaching, whilst parents are provided with a snapshot of how their child is progressing. For us, it is one assessment that makes up a thorough Assessment Schedule and should not present any stress for students, as they are well versed at completing online assessments. If you have any concerns about your child participating in Naplan, please speak to your child’s teacher.

We have now begun the process of enrolling 2025 Foundation students. If you have a child coming in 2025, or know of someone else who does, please contact the office for further details. Enrolment forms can be downloaded from the Trinity School Website.

Foundation to 2 Literacy at Home Workshop
Starting your child on the road to reading is very exciting! Reading at home is vital for the development of children’s literacy skills, especially vocabulary and comprehension. By making reading part of your daily routine, you can help your child build a strong foundation for academic success and a lifelong love of reading.
In school we use Little Learners Love Literacy which is an explicit and sequential literacy approach for teaching children to read, write and spell with confidence. We have also purchased decodable take home readers for your children to practise the letter-sound relationships that they have learned at school so far.
On Tuesday the 19th of March, we will be hosting information sessions for parents and carers of students in Foundation to Grade 2, with the aim of supporting you and your child with literacy at home.
Please come along in person on Tuesday the 19th of March at 2:30 in the Multi-Purpose Room or online at 7pm. Here is the link: Literacy at Home Workshop
Sessions will only go for 45 minutes. We look forward to sharing the world of Little Learners Love Literacy with you!
NAPLAN 2024
Next week our Grades 3 and 5 students will be doing thier NAPLAN test. NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum.
The assessment window starts on Wednesday 13 March and finishes on Monday 25 March. At Trinity, we have scheduled the tests in the first three days of this window, with catch-up days to follow.
The schedule for both classes is as follows:
- Wednesday 13th March: Writing
- Thursday 14th March: Reading and Conventions of Language
- Friday 15th March: Numeracy

Religious Education - Term 1, Week 6
Dear Families,
This past Sunday was the Third Sunday of Lent with the Gospel taken from John. This particular passage is well known, but also commonly misused. As Jesus drives out the traders and money changes from the temple, His fathers house, Jesus expresses his anger. Most assume that Jesus’ anger was directed at the traders because their business had desecrated the temple, but the reality is a bit more complicated. As Greg Sunter reflects;
"The Temple was the holiest site for sacrifice to God. The tradition dictated that sacrifice made by a priest on the altar was the highest form of worship. The faithful would purchase their sacrifice animal at the Temple itself – thus the presence of the people selling cattle, sheep and pigeons.
Jesus’ outrage directed to the whole religious practice and hierarchical structure that has developed to a point where the only way a person can pray in a ‘valid’ way is to purchase an animal and hand it over to a priest who goes behind a screened wall to sacrifice the animal. The only way to seek God’s forgiveness and mercy was to ‘buy’ it at the Temple. This was what outraged Jesus. He could not stomach the injustice nor the barriers that had been erected between the people and their God."
What a powerful message for us to take away this Lenten season. Let us pray freely and openly to our God. Let us work towards developing a closer relationship with him, breaking down any barriers that stand in our way.
Project Compassion
Each year, Project Compassion brings together thousands of Australians in schools, parishes and the community to stand in solidarity with the world’s most vulnerable communities, to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion is For All Future Generations. It reminds us that what we do today can have an impact for all future generations. This message invites us to step up for those who do not have the essential resources they need for their survival, and those whose needs at this time are far beyond our own. By putting compassion into action, we can make a difference today, for all future generations.
At Trinity, we value the opportunity to give to those in need and walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Each of our prayer spaces in our classrooms and around the school have a Project Compassion donation box. It has been wonderful to see students promoting the fundraiser to their peers, as well as bringing donations themsleves.
Sacramental Program
It has been wonderful to see the attendance of some of our year 3 students and their families at the Reconciliation Workshops last week!
All students taking part in Reconciliation will also attend a Student-Only Reconciliation Workshop at school on Friday 15th March at 2:15pm. The session will aim to further prepare students to celebrate this sacrament.

Visual Art-Term 1,Week 6
Trinity participates in the promotion of Literacy and Art links. Last year we had a student win the Balnaves Foundation Literary Award for Poetry from entries all around Australia, we also had other winners in this national competition in both the Arts category and the Literacy category. Students are able to upload both their artwork and any poems or stories they may have written. Competition closes on the 30th of September.
At Trinity we have had many winners in this competition both in the Visual Arts section but also in the Literacy section.
Oz Kids was initiated in the early 90's by The Australian Children's Literary Board, a Not-For-Profit Organisation primarily focused on the literary needs of our young children.
Oz Kids is a magazine which we distribute on a national basis and publish online through this website. Its purpose is to promote and support children's literary and artistic talents and to provide a vehicle for children to appreciate and develop their skills and encourage them to continue in the arts, especially when they see their work published.

TRINITY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - FRIDAY 22ND MARCH

Trinity Run Club is back!
Mr Dannaoui is assisting our students to develop endurance, speed and confidence to eventually run 2-3 kilometres. This is not only great preparation for cross country, but improves fitness for sports like football, netball, basketball and soccer.

CHILD SAFE STANDARDS WORKING WITH CHILDREN
Trinity has zero tolerance towards child abuse and is therefore committed to complying with the Ministerial Order No. 1359 – Implementing the Child Safe Standards – Managing the Risk of Child Abuse in Schools and School Boarding Premises. All parents/guardians wishing to help in the classroom, canteen or attend excursions MUST have completed the PARENT HELPER WORKSHOP and hold a current WORKING WITH CHILDREN CARD.
Further details are available from the school office or the Justice Department website. All parent/guardian helpers must sign in at the office before proceeding to the classrooms. Your current Working with Children card must be displayed at all times when working in the classrooms and attending excursions.
A reminder to all Parents/Carers, supervision by School Staff begins at 8.30am before school and after school only at the drop off area until 3.30pm.
Trinity Car Park Etiquette
- For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
- Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.
- The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up Zone ONLY.
- The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. If your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of the pick-up queue.
- There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.
- THE GATES CLOSE AT 8.50am. They will RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm. The gates close for the day at 3:30pm. Occasionally they might reopen slightly later due to school activities.
- The Staff Car Park is for STAFF PARKING ONLY. Please do not use it as a drop off/pick up for students.
