From the Principal - Week 11

It’s hard to believe that it is the end of Term 2 and that we are halfway through the school year.  The time has flown by, and it has been amazing to see the individual growth of all students. As parents we should be proud of our children and celebrate just how hard they have worked. It shouldn’t matter what mark they receive on their school report, as not every child is going to find school easy. My children were never, and still aren’t, exactly where the school report says they should be in some curriculum areas, but this doesn’t matter. What matters is that they have tried their hardest and that we have acknowledged their achievements along the way.  We are all different. We learn differently and excel at different things. This is what makes us unique and what makes our world a great place. I encourage you to focus on the positives in the School Report and from the Family Learning Conversations as this is what will instil a love of learning in your child moving forward.

As we near the end of term, I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone in the school community. After 21 years of being actively involved with Trinity, this Friday I will conclude my role as Principal in preparation for my new role as Foundation Principal of St Josephine Bakhita in Clyde North, which will open in 2025.  

I first joined the Trinity community in 2003 as a classroom teacher. Over the past 21 years I have had the privilege of working as both a teacher and a leader at Trinity. During this time, I have seen the school grow from being a small school, to the vibrant Catholic community it is today with over 500 students. I have had the honour of working alongside enthusiastic and passionate staff, being supported by amazing families, but most importantly, I have been inspired by the students that have come through the doors over this time. The students at Trinity are the reason why I am in education. I absolutely love my job and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. It has been a privilege sharing this journey with each and every one of them and I will be leaving Trinity a better person because of what they have taught me – to never give up, to find the positives in each new day, to laugh and smile and to take the time to appreciate the small things in life. Trinity will always have a special place in my heart because of the wonderful community that exists.

Student Absences - PAM

A friendly reminder to parents to please enter your child's absence through PAM prior to 9.30am in the morning. If you child is going to be away for an extended period, multiple day entries can be added.  Our policy states that all unexplained absences must be followed up with a text message from the school and then a phone call if no response is received. If parents are uncontactable, our duty of care requires us to contact your listed emergency contacts and then if we still cannot reach you, a call must be made to the police for a welfare check to ensure that everyone is ok. I thank all families for their support in ensuring that school attendance is correctly recorded.

Playground Updates

During Semester Two, the senior playground will be replaced as the costs associated with repairing sections of it are not sustainable. We are also in the process of obtaining quotes for a new play space in front of the art room and for establishing a team of staff and students to plan the sensory garden that will be built in the same area. Some of the money raised from fundraising will be put towards this new project. Stay turned for exciting updates! We have also recently purchased new robotics kits for the students to use as part of their ICT studies using the money raised from school events.

Scholastic Book Fair

This year we will be holding our annual Scholastic Book Fair once again over the Family Learning Conversation nights. This will take place in the multi-purpose room.  Thank you to Mrs Gatehouse for her organisation of the event. A percentage from all books and resources sold will go towards purchasing new books for the library.  

School Safety - Drop off and Pick Up Times

Last week we communicated to families around the dangers of performing U-Turns along Oakgrove Drive during school drop off and pick up times. Please see below the image from the Casey Council in relation to where U-Turns are discouraged.  Thank you for your support in ensuring that everyone in our community and the wider community remains safe.

Religious Education - Term 2, Week 11

Dear Families, 

What a fantastic Term we have had at Trinity! The students have been looking forward to starting their new unit with the inquiry topic; If not me, then who? This question will spark us to think more deeply about the Catholic Social Teaching Principles, and how we can live out the saving ministry of Jesus today. 

Grandparents Day at OLHC Parish

Our students are working hard to create some Grandparents Day cards for the elderly parishoners of OLHC Parish. Students reflected on how we can make a difference in the lives of others, and how a small action can have a significant positive change. Our three parish schools will hand in our Grandparents day cards to celebrate at OLHC Sunday Mass on 28th July - 11am. If you're available, please feel free to come along and celebrate with our parish community. 

Special Assembly

On Friday the 28th of June at 2:30pm, we will be holding a special assembly to farewell Mrs Pepper and wish her well in her new position.

All past and present community members are warmly invited to attend this celebration and to take the opportunity to personally thank Kathryn for the amazing contribution she has made to the Trinity Community as a teacher and leader. 

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there.

Visual Art-Term 2,Week 11

Grade Four Gallery Art

The Grade Four students artwork (from when they were in Grade Three at the end of the year) has been chosen to be displayed at the Zart Art Gallery in Box Hill for the whole of Term Two, this artwork in based on the abstract artist Carmen Herrera. It is a great opportunity for our students to experience having their works displayed to the public.The Zart Student Gallery is a unique public space dedicated to the exhibition of student artwork. It provides an exciting and meaningful platform for children of all ages to celebrate their visual art practice and receive positive feedback and recognition

Week 11 Artworks

Foundation students got in touch with their emotions and were able to draw these growling tigers.

Grade One's listened to the story -Alphabet Soup and created their own version

Grade Two student looked at our indigenious culture and created artworks based on their own stories

MHipS: Physical Activity - Term 2, Week 11

Regular physical activity promotes many aspects of child and adolescent development, including social and emotional skills, as well as physical development of motor skills.  It also supports mental wellbeing by improving mood, increasing levels of relaxation, and provides young people with an outlet for excess energy and frustration, which relieves tension. Inversely, we also know that high levels of inactivity can lead to a greater risk of both physical and mental health problems.

So how much activity do our children need?  According to guidelines, at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity every day for primary school students.  Based on Australian data, currently only 1 in 4 children get meet that guideline.  Hopefully, our students can fulfil most of their daily physical activity needs during a school day through physical education classes, recess/lunchtime activities (basketball, netball, soccer, footy, cricket, chasey, etc.), various lunchtime sporting activities, and simply riding to and from school.

CHILD SAFE STANDARDS WORKING WITH CHILDREN

Trinity has zero tolerance towards child abuse and is therefore committed to complying with the Ministerial Order No. 1359 – Implementing the Child Safe Standards – Managing the Risk of Child Abuse in Schools and School Boarding Premises. All parents/guardians wishing to help in the classroom, canteen or attend excursions MUST have completed the PARENT HELPER WORKSHOP and hold a current WORKING WITH CHILDREN CARD.

Further details are available from the school office or the Justice Department website.  All parent/guardian helpers must sign in at the office before proceeding to the classrooms.  Your current Working with Children card must be displayed at all times when working in the classrooms and attending excursions.

A reminder to all Parents/Carers, supervision by School Staff begins at 8.30am before school and after school only at the drop off area until 3.30pm.

The video will prompt some discussions on the big questions such as “Is there more to life than just my daily experience and if Jesus existed was he more than a wise man?”.
You will have opportunities to ask questions, share your ideas or just listen to others. It is fun and quite different to a lecture.

SAFE AROUND SCHOOLS

Trinity Car Park Etiquette

• For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
• Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area.  You are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices.  Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly.  The car park is NOT a meeting area.
• The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up Zone ONLY.
• The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-UP ZONES.  These are NO STANDING zones.  If your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of the pick-up queue.
• There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park.  All vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.
• THE GATES CLOSE AT 8.50am. They will RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm. The gates close for the day at 3:30pm. Occasionally they might reopen slightly later due to school activities.
• The Staff Car Park is for STAFF PARKING ONLY.  Please do not use it as a drop off/pick up for students.
